#MCRFW13 LOCAL SCHOOLGIRL ‘BAGS’ SUCCESS WITH MANCHESTER FASHION WEEK

So continuing on with my updates of Manchester Fashion Week, I felt this star deserved a post all of her own!

Ocean Williams of Whalley Range High School for girls, is the lucky winner of Manchester Fashion Week's competition in conjunction with sponsors, Duo Plastics, to design the official VIP bag for this years event!

Ocean (aged 14) competed with fellow Whalley Range High School students to create an original and exciting design to adorn the goody bags of this years Manchester Fashion Week's VIP guests.

“We chose Whalley Range High School as it is a school that is right at the heart of Manchester. Their textiles department has recently been refurbished and a number of their pupils go on to design courses or aspire to work within the fashion industry. This year Manchester Fashion Week is all about creating a legacy for fashion in our city and we wanted to develop this from the grass roots.”

Kirsty Attwood, Head of Fashion at  MCRFW

And clearly they chose right, with the 1500 strong girls school not failing to deliver! The girls were given a brief to create a design that "epitomises Manchester and reflects its edgy style." According to the MCRFW judges panel the standard was so high they narrowed it down to a final 10 designs before Ocean was crowned the winner!

“It was such a hard decision for us to make. The girls had come up with some amazing ideas but we felt Ocean really made an impact and loved use of the Manchester skyline and striking colours.”
Nadine Merabi, Manchester Designer, Fashionista and MCRFW Judge

Alongside Nadine on the judging panel was Duo Plastic UK's commercial Director, Anthony Brimelow. Leading polythene packaging manufacturer Duo Plastics UK is a Manchester-based company, which works with leading retailers including ASOS, Boohoo.com and JD Williams, follows professional hair salon brand REDKEN and cosmetics giant Lancome in their desire to support the northern fashion event. Duo will be supplying all the packaging required during the seven day event including gift bags with any purchases and VIP goody bags. Brimelow shares his thoughts on why he has found this to be suh a good project for the company to get involved in:

“As a business retail is one of our key sectors – we count leading brands such as ASOS, Boohoo.com and JD Williams among our customers so there’s a natural affinity between us and many of the companies involved in Manchester Fashion Week. In fact we have worked with Boohoo.com, another ambassador of MCRFW from day one and supported them as their business has rapidly grown.
“In addition to this, we are a proud Manchester business and we’re celebrating our 25th anniversary this year. The city has been good to us so the way Manchester Fashion Week is nurturing new talent and helping young businesses grow really appeals to us.
Anthony Brimelow, Duo Plastic UK Commercial Director and MCRFW Judge

Most excitingly for Ocean, the design will now be made into an actual bag by the leading Manchester based packaging manufacturer and suppliers Duo UK, who are one of Manchester Fashion Week's main sponsors.  How wonderful for her to see her design come to life!
Ocean's Winning Design!

This has been a fantastic way of MCRFW integrating young talent into their event. With 2013 marking Manchester Fashion Week's second year, we will see an increase in catwalk shows and exhibition space and with 20% of the 30 catwalks being donated to independent British Fashion Designers, it is providing them with a fantastic opportunity to showcase their work and for us to champion the new fashionistas of the future.

Congratulations Ocean!

#MCRFW13 Update: Exciting Developments!

The plus side to my disappearance these last two months is that I have TONS of hot Manchester Fashion Week goss' to fill you in with! ... Every cloud right??

The one I am most excited about sharing is of course the addition of NET-A-PORTER.COM 's own Kirsty Attwood as the MCRFW team's new Head of Fashion! With a decade of experience working alongside some of the most high-profile and luxurious brands in the world, teamed with her influential decision making with sales teams, her success with the Studio Services department at Selfridges London, and the fact she has owned her own womenswear brand Kirstmairie which attracted a number of celebrity clients, she will almost certainly be ensuring this MCRFW will be a show to remember! (I told you it was good..)

With such a wide variety of experience it is evident that Attwood has a lot to bring to the MCRFW table, her experience within design will enable her to relate to those featured in the show and her background in sales, management, and business as a whole means she has the creative vision and strategical know-how to make her a force to be reckoned with!

Kirsty now plans to utilise this experience to cement MCRFW as an integral part of the Fashion industries events calender:

"The inspiration behind MCRFW offers such a foundation to this companies structure it has huge potential to have an integral and impact-full contribution to the industry as a whole, over the next year I hope to build those relationships to not only establish the industries professionals based in the north but give a platform to new talent" Kirsty Attwood, MCRFW Head of Fashion

Kirsty Attwood, hard at work for #MCRFW13

Attwood is most certainly making her mark revealing that this years Fashion Show will take place in Manchester's National Football Museum on April 22nd-26th - mark your diaries now ladies!

The choice of venue could not capture Manchester's proud legacy more, combining its two great loves... Football and Fashion! It is a city that has produced some of the finest athletes and most iconic designers in the country so the National Football Museum could not be a more fitting choice to celebrate the cities style and fresh, new talent!

The show itself will transform the iconic, Urbis building into a must-visit hot spot showcasing 30 fashion shows and playing host to 15 exhibition spaces throughout the 5-day event. Not only can you expect to see MCRFW house its usual extravaganza of catwalks and shopping, there will also be some surprises from the fabulous MCRFW team to celebrate the building of their new website and blog plus the exciting launch of MCRFW hosts!

Fresh Beginnings...

I have seriously been MIA from the blogging scene for a while now!

Unfortunately, terrible circumstances surrounding Christmas and New Years meant I decided to take a bit of a step back from everything and spend time with those that I love, so although I have missed my blog (and am sorry to anyone that has missed it), I do feel my reasons were in the best interests of those closest to me!

Not only have I neglected my blog, I have also neglected my NY resolutions- the annual “Exercise more + Eat better” resolution did not even get a look in before I was tucking into my 14” Meat Feast and the remains of my Christmas chocolates! So I have decided to start again… And as today is Ash Wednesday, aka the start of Lent, I think it is as good a time as any to give up the junk food and start on my new health kick!

Of course some serious motivation is needed and I have found it in the form of my newly ordered trainers.

Nike Core TR (£52.00 JD Sports)

The Nike Core Trainers are entry-level (of course) running shoes incorporating Nike Air technology to add a spring to the step! I have gone with some simple black beauties to prove how seriously I am taking this gym lark… and at £52 they don’t exactly break the bank.

Unlike Nike's latest creation, The Nike Flyknit Lunar1+.

Nike Flyknit Lunar1+ (£140 Nike)

Retailing for the slightly higher price of £140 (store.nike.com), the Flyknit Lunar1+ is the result of four years work from the Nike production team and was designed based on feedback from some of the most elite runners and athletes to create a featherweight, flexible design that is described as a 'second skin-fit.' With their shocking pink and flash of yellow they would certainly make a bold statement, ideal for any fashion conscious, hard-core runner. £140 is by no means an unreasonable price tag for such a shoe, however, unfortunately for me it is slightly out of budget right now! But if the shoes are this good, perhaps I will embrace this new found fitness freak a lot quicker than first thought... I will keep you posted!

Wish me luck!!

Post Update: There was a little glitch when I posted this meaning it was not showing up properly to everyone visiting my blog! I have resolved the issue now so everyone should be able to see it, and sorry to anyone who missed it first time around! xx
